Gum Disease Cure in North Bethesda. Gingevitis and Periodontitis treatment.

Periodontics

Sometimes, even the most conscientious brusher can suffer inflammation of the gingival (gum) tissue. Untreated gum disease can affect the gums, teeth, and bone supporting the teeth. The first stage of gum disease is gingivitis in which the gums appear red and swollen and bleed easily. Gingivitis is usually caused by bacterial plaque that accumulates in the small gaps between the gums and the teeth and by tartar that forms on the teeth. These accumulations may be tiny, even microscopic, but the bacteria in them produce foreign chemicals and toxins that cause inflammation of the gums around the teeth. This inflammation can, over the years, cause deep pockets between the teeth and gums and loss of bone around teeth. Untreated gingivitis can lead to periodontitis which, depending on the severity, can be seen as a various degrees of breakdown in the tissue and bone that support the teeth. Advanced periodontitis may require surgery and result in tooth loss. We treat gum disease in any condition in our Dental center in North Bethesda.

Although the destructive cycle that starts with the accumulation of plaque is the most common cause of periodontal disease, a number of other factors can contribute to or aggravate the condition. These include:

- Tobacco use

- Heredity

- Drugs

- Diabetes

- Hormonal changes

- Nutritional deficiencies
